Description:
This is a wonderful traveling dress from c.1890 in
a brown and tan wool chevron stripe. The waist has
a stand collar with a center front notch. Pleats
fall from the center front neckline to the center
front hemline. Jacket style panels from the
shoulders and side seams cross to the chest and
trimmed in a beautiful gimp cord and gold bullion
ribbon. Long, set in sleeve are gathered along the
tops of the armcyes creating a slight lift and
taper to the wrists. The same ribbon trims the
wrists and a brown faille ruffle falls from the
inside. The waist is fully lined with hook and eye
closures down the front. Gored skirt with inverted
pleats at the center back. Appliqué border
along the hemline in the same fabric.
