Description:
This is a c.1890 dress in black wool brocade with a
floral pattern. The dress has a boned, stand collar
in pleated silk taffeta. Silk taffeta yoke is also
pleated with the lower bodice falling gathers from
beneath the yoke to pleats at the center front
waistline. Bolero style flaps comes to points over
the chest from the side seams and are edged in
black satin ribbon. Long, 2pc, set in sleeves fall
slender two poufs at the lower sleeves. A band of
silk taffeta edges the top of the pouf and at the
cuffs. Hook and eye closures down the center front
lining. Sweeping, gored skirt has three rows of
appliquéd black taffeta ribbon circling the
lower skirt.
