Description: This is a gorgeous skirt from c.1897 in black dotted net. The skirt falls from a narrow waistband in tiny pin tucks that graduate smaller towards the hips. Black crochet lace adorns the border of the netting and along the bottom of the skirt below the large decorative medallions. The medallions are a denser net with appliqués of embroidered bouquets of roses. Black silk netting runs along the hemline. Label: Le. Borges ?, 33W 36th St. NY. Condition: The skirt, once part of a dress, has a little reworking done. There was once a blue silk lining whose remnants are still at the base of the waist. The waist tape from the bodice was used to make a waistband for the skirt. The skirt has been lifted with a tuck removing the train. This could probably be let out to its original shape.
