Description:
This is a burgundy silk brocade gown dating to
c.1865. The fabric has a small dot pattern. Rounded
neckline with hook and eye closures down the center
front. Small black v-shaped decorations made of a
black silk covered button, three rows of ribbon
with chenille dots on the ends and black lace along
the bottom, adorn the center front bodice. Black
velvet ribbons extend from beneath the center front
and hook to the right side, under the sleeve. The
bodice is dart fitted with three darts extending
from either side of the center front waist up to
the bust. Long, pagoda sleeves overlap on the outer
arm and fall from dropped armcyes. Gathered ribbon
borders the sleeve. The same black v-shaped
adornments decorate the upper sleeves. Sleeves are
lined in an ivory tissue silk. Wide waist yoke with
the full skirt falling in pleats at the waist. Tiny
watch pocket on the left front seam. The dress is
fully lined in brown horsehair silk.
