Description:
This is a stunning "Ascot" style gown from c.1910.
The gown, all in black and white has incredible
style and detailing. The gown has a gorgeous white
silk jacquard Oriental style pattern in medallions
and flowers. The wide, scooped neckline is self
piped with ivory netting that extends from the
center front and back over the shoulders. The
bodice falls loose from the shoulders to the waist
with very little understructure support. Kimono
sleeves are cut in one with the bodice and extend
to a short sleeve. Self piping decorates the upper
sleeve with a piped border along the bottom edge.
Accordian pleated ivory netting falls from beneath
the sleeve. An inner sleeve of ivory netting, edged
in black silk ribbon, attaches to the ivory silk
bodice lining. A shawl of black hand embroidered
net lace, scalloped along the edges, is attached to
the bodice and tucks into the wiast in front and in
gathers at the center back. The same accordian
pleated lace runs the inner edge of the shawl and
ruffles around the neck and down the center front.
Ivory silk skirt, matching the bodice, falls falt
from beneath the black silk cummerbund. Black silk
panel extends from the center back under the large
flat bow on teh cummerbund and cuts diagonally down
the sides to the center front. An overskirt in the
same black lace falls from the back waistline and
is open down teh center back with the scalloped
edges appliqued over the black silk. The skirt
extends 1/3 of the way down the black hem panel and
then scoops to the center front and then up to the
waist side. Black lace extends above the cummerbund
under the arms on both sides. A large flat bow
decorates the center front where both the black
border and the black lace meet. Attached underskirt
in ivory silk satin with a narrow hem band in black
silk.

Condition:
Fantastic condition. A couple small holes in the
lining. Very faint and small spots of underarm
perspiration.
