Description:
This is an early 30's evening gown in black and
white windowpane silk taffeta. The fabric also has
a black satin self stripe running over the
windowpane pattern. My belief is the fabric is
Edwardian and was used later or reused from an
earlier gown. The dress has a square neckline with
wide shoulder straps. Pleats fall from beneath the
shoulder straps over the bust. 4 Gored skirt falls
from the natural waistline. Side snap closures.
Matching jacket has slits on either side of the
center front, just below the neckline. This was
probably used as a scarf slide or a double ended
decorative button fastener. The jacket is open down
the front. Long, dolman style sleeves are cut in
one with the jacket and have a turned under finish
at the wrists.
